Peace to KMOS of Motivate Movement for getting at us with his request. You know we always got you, fam! Nothing can compare to the lyrical wordplay of old skool Bay Area hip hop. Some of the best have come and gone but their legacies through their music speaks for itself on an infinite level. It's a definite head bobbin, stank face, hand in the air, oh daym type of mix because ... oh yeah...we took it back. Trust me...you just gotta listen. Just click on the image above or click here to listen to the come back show on Limelight Radio. Word.

I was surfing youtube one night...like I had anything else better to do, haha! ...and I came across some videos of these Bay Area guys that are apparently pretty popular for their youtube videos. I guess I've been out of the loop but as I watched their videos, I think they are pretty darn talented. Sorry if I'm 10 years late with this information...but I say, better late than never. I'm sure there are more artists like these guys but so far, these are the ones that I've stumbled upon and have left a lasting impression on me with their musical talents.

To the fellas that I'm about to mention - if any of you, by chance, ever read this, let me just say...
1. You are awesome at what you do and please continue to bless the world by sharing your talents.
2. Holler at me. ;)

Here are some of my favorite videos:

Gabe Bondoc. He's unbelievable. I don't know him at all but he has me in a daze right now. I could spend the rest of my life listening to him sing. Sigh.

Jeremy "Passion" Manongdo. Another talented musician that I could listen to for a lifetime. This is a very sweet tribute song.

AJ Rafael playing some R&B classics on the piano. He's only 19!!

Leejay Abucayan. Dope beatboxing...I wonder if his mouth gets tired. In any case, he's very talented.

So lately I've noticed a trend that seems to come up in a lot of things that I've been doing. Whether it be bringing back something that was lost, something that was taken, or something that was forgotten... in any case, the practice of bringing something back can be helpful in dealing with things at the moment. Although at times, going back in time can stir up negative feelings or painful memories, however you have to know that regardless of whatever happened in the past, you are living proof that you had the ability to deal with it in order to be where you are now. More importantly, you can now look back and determine what went wrong the first time so that you won't let it happen again. Isn't there a saying of some sort that goes "In life there are no such things as mistakes, only lessons"? and then along those same lines there is another saying that goes, "First time, shame on them; Second time, shame on you"? I may not have quoted them exactly but you all get the picture.

What's being brought back? Well...first (and by no means was this all for a shameless plug) we're bringing back Limelight Radio back on the air after 2 months off. Now here is the plug: Tune in Friday, 8:30pm on KUSF 90.3FM for our COME BACK SHOW.

Second would be kind of a combo. I'll try to keep this short. 2008 was the worst year of my life and I pray that it can't get any worse that what it was, if that is at all possible. I used to say a lot that I missed rhyme and reason in my life in the midst of all the chaos and confusion. From that, now in 2009, I told myself that I needed to bring back something that I used to do a lot and that was writing and working on music. And from that, I've been in the practice of doing those things on daily basis and have been working on putting together a song about bringing back that rhyme and reason.

So for my last example of how I'm bringing something back... here are some throwbacks that I wrote back in 2006/2007 respectively. I guess back then, I was telling myself what I need to be reminded of right now. I hope you enjoy my thoughts.

First one goes...
im walking on positivity's path
maintaining the reconstruction of the aftermath
i only see fresh greens ahead
not the kind you smoke but the kind you spend instead
my bed, the sanctuary where i lay
where i dream of what i can be
decompress to continue day to day
realizing the reality, analyzing the technicality
living out the practicality, finding functionality
i do what i can and my life is the proof
i found inspiration, i found the truth
i cant help but feel the urge run through me
the urgency to feel the peace that's in me
giving thanks for those who stood by me
with me, not in front or behind
but right next to me throughout the grind
i lay my life down as i know they would
understand what's important as i know i should
kindred said it best so i give credit where credit's due
where would i be if i didn't know you, it's true
my family, my friends, my faith that I depend on
i fall to pray on the knees that i bend on
ask for forgiveness for the sins i've committed
and pray for the guidance to blessings i've submitted
acquitted to where my innocence was re-found
mistakes of my own issues had me bound
but that's all past me
i cant allow my thoughts to drift back
even when my word strength is starting to slack
that's wack, time to resume the attack
i know it takes time but i gotta look to the top
back to the path, forget walking, keep runnin', don't stop
the journey just started and i have nothing to lose
the fight to the finish line is what i choose

And the second goes...
i gotta get on the come up
time to rise up and emerge from the shell
smell the roses and see the light
put up the fight to make things right
might... i be the one that needs to make this move
move toward content and peace to say the least
battle the beast that's been beating me for years
living shadowed by fears...tears that yearned the truth
i need a fresh start to a healthy heart
beating the right rhythms of blood...steady flow
to let me know that i am strong
wrong to presume that life has cheated me
depleted me of rights to vocalize
exercise my thoughts into known knowledge
i find it hard to believe that time stops us
flops us into a downward spin
look within and raise your chin
give respect to yourself cuz that's where it's due
its on you to do you and that's where i see me
let my light shine like the sun until my days are done
ready to step to the line...ready for war
ready to take the hit...ready for what's in store
catching a glimpse on the edge of anew
its a new year...what does it mean to you
time to shake it off...time to renew
time to find a peace...time to take the queue
grow like flowers under plowed gravel
motivate movement...let the mind travel
my friends...are you ready to submerge into the dive
only to resurface and know you're alive
survive insecurities and impurities of the past
drop all the grudges...keep the lessons that last
stand fast and grasp that of which matters
leave all the petty stuff to split and scatter
i can't wait until this battle is won
when we stand together and victory has begun
fists raised proud and tightly to the sky
the hint of warmth on my cheek as I cry
when happiness has triggered the ducts to flow
when the world sees the light of what i already know
its time...time to begin...5...4...3...2...1
we win

I honestly can't tell you enough how proud I am of how well the Jabbawockeez are doing. I'm proud of them because yes, they are representing the Filipino community and the many talents that our people have, but also because I really do believe that they are awesome performers with an exceptional ability to dance. OK, granted there may be other dance crews out there that people feel are better than them, but regardless of the fact, the Jabbawockeez are where they are because they took the steps needed to secure their success. That being said, even if there are better dancers out there...who cares. I'm not talking about them right now. The topics of this blog are my views of one particular dance crew - the Jabbawockeez. So, let's not be haters. Give credit where credit is truly due. I'm not a groupie or a die hard Jabba fan. I simply respect this crew, and any crew for that matter, because of their talent, discipline, and willingness to go beyond limits to get to where they want to go. Not to mention the super mini side note that I'm a sucker for guys that can dance but HONESTLY...that is besides the views that I've previously mentioned.
Peace.

Good Morning, Good Afternoon, Good Evening. While I take this breath of familiarity of being back in the blogging habit, I'm hoping that I will be able to commit to this type of artistic therapy unlike my last attempt. Looking back at some of my first ever blog entries from back in '04, I am inspired to get back into the verbal rhythms that used to flow so freely back in the day. Hopefully this will be the jump to something cool.

Being that I'd never expect you to want to read through all of my randomness, especially if you don't know me...allow me to take this opportunity to let you know what I'm about. Then hopefully I would have sparked some interest so that you'd come back and visit this here blog o' mine.

So...this is me and my puppy Tempo. He's cute huh! ;)

I believe in family and real relationships that we are blessed with in life. I'm a workaholic when I'm on the grind. My "day job" classifies me as a HR Professional but around the clock I also devote myself to a little goldmine that I co-created called Socialush, LLC. This entails me having to assume the roles of event photographer, editor, weekly radio show host, etc...on top of running the Operations side of the business. My interests, as you will see as this blogs gets updated, revolves around a few things: music/writing, movies/live entertainment, NBA/UFC, fashion/decor/organization, and of course leisure/cuisine/travel. And yes, I do often like to rant and rave about things I see, stuff people do, current events and all that jazz.

So, if you like what you see... feel free to come on by and read a thing or two... and just shoot the shit with me. Peace.
